John the Baptist (after Donatello)

Begun after seeing a photo of Donatello’s polychromed sculpture, and completed in my imagination. I was drawn to the feeling in the arched eyebrows and weary eyes in a caricature-like distortion, so that John felt both relatable-recognizable and like a being from another world-dimension. So I made a painted icon out of a sculptural icon.
